Chicken and Dumplings. I have to say, this is one of my childhood favorites growing up. It is amazing how when you are young its the simple meals stick with you as an adult. So, now when it gets cold outside or is a dreary day, this meal comes to mind. Well, since it is has gotten colder and have been raining outside, [Read more…] about Chicken and Dumplings
No More Frozen Waffles!
Frozen Waffles. They are so convenient. I mean, think about it for a second. You go to the freezer, pull out a couple of frozen waffles and plop them in the toaster. In a minute or so, you have hot waffles! I mean, waffles make the list of “smash-and-grab” breakfast items in the mornings!
Well, for years, we have talked about saving money and buying a waffle maker. The only thing is [Read more…] about No More Frozen Waffles!
Food Recalls and What YOU Can Do About It
Why is learning to be self-sufficient or for some God-dependable so important? Because of stuff like this, yet another recall. On Monday, the USDA Food Safety and Inspection department put out a health notice that made [Read more…] about Food Recalls and What YOU Can Do About It
Banana Oatmeal Buttermilk Pancakes
Updated 02/25/2019: Made some adjustments to the recipe. After looking back at it, the measurements were mixed up.
Lately, I have been trying to eat a little healthier. I have been cutting out a lot of the white flour items and replacing them with whole wheat flours. My Sad Loaf of Bread
This past weekend, we found that the household had run out of bread. So, we are driving home from being out and about when Deidra mentions that we forgot to go pick up some bread. Me being the baker that I am says, “I’ll just make a loaf of bread”, so the crisis was averted – temporarily. [Read more…] about My Sad Loaf of Bread
Scrambled Eggs With Collards & Onions
This past Saturday I got the chance to go out to our garage and cut a few collard leaves off the plants from my hydroponic system. I have to say, it is quite a joy to go to your own garden and pull them fresh off the plant only to serve them up minutes later.
I won’t focus much on the hydroponic growing system as I will blog in more detail on this later. However, I do want to share some photos and the recipe from this weekend! If you recall from my wife’s post on Real Cooking, we may or may not have exact measurements because sometimes we “wing-it”, but I will try to give you a good place to start. Besides, the way we season, may not be the way you season!
If You Have A Seed…
One of many hot topics last week was the announcement of the proposed changes coming to many of those getting assistance from the government for food. Politics is a touchy subject, and I try to stay out of that talk as much as humanly possible because, well, my point of views are never really popular with those on either side of the aisle. So, this won’t be a political post for or against the idea, but more of what we as a society can do no matter what happens. [Read more…] about If You Have A Seed…
