It is finished!! This past weekend in the 90 degree weather, we made another trek out to the property. This time, we were successful! If you remember from the last few posts, getting out there was a chore, and trying to cut all that grass wasn’t as easy as we thought it would be.
It was a family affair. We got the boy and girl child on the riding mower and the weed wacker, the husband-man on Herman, our tractor, and I was, yet again, the designated “manager” of the operation. I’d imagine when we get more equipment I’ll be out there helping as well. But for now, I let them have all the fun 😉
While managing, I got to sit back and thank God for all the property had to offer. We’ve posted before about the pecan trees and elderberries out there. But there’s so much more. From the time that we cut two weeks ago to now, the pasture grass has taken over and has grown in so nice. It’s definitely going to be able to be used for hay. The pecan trees are looking really nice. We are going to need to clean them up a bit once we learn how, but I’m hoping that in the fall we’ll be able to get a nice harvest if the animals are kind, HA! But also, while there, we saw that we had wild strawberries!
I don’t think they are the “sweet” kind, but even still, it’s food. There are also so many beautiful flowers out there which will hopefully attract bees that we will eventually need.
We also have black snakes. That at one time would have worried me, but not so much anymore. I’ve learned a lotabout them and frankly, I thank God they are there. They are not venomous but they do eat the venomous snakes we have here, like copper heads. They also keep the rodent population down. One thing I can NOT stand are rodents….and there were a few spotted while cutting. So as long as the snakes are around, I’m hoping they’ll take care of that problem and I won’t have to pass out from seeing those things too often.
All in all though, it was a great Saturday. We finished cutting the property. The victory was sweet after all we’ve been through. Antoine looked like he won the lottery LOL. It was great family time, and a glimpse into what will be our future soon.
Thanks for letting me share!
